Version History - for those who need to
know...
Main updates for version 4.0.49
(beta) and 4.0.50 (final)
- New 'Same As' Feature added - A dropdown menu on each pane's toolbar lets you make the current pane 'the same as' any other active pane. Just another time saver for you from the world of File Smile. Look for the equal sign ('=') icon on the toolbar.
Minor updates
- Sorting order was not being saved for files in some cases
- Bug found when in 'list' view - selection arrow was appearing in top left corner - fixed
- Loading last options/preferences sped up slightly
- Minor code changes throughout
Main updates for version 4.0.41
(beta) and 4.0.42 (final)
- List View - files can now be displayed in 'list' view. Previous
versions of File Smile defaulted to showing filename,
size, date modified, etc in a single column only (now called 'details'
view). The user can now choose to show filenames
only in multiple columns.
- Collapse All - new toolbar item allows all folders and sub-folders to
be collapsed in one click.
- Folder and File Filtering - in addition to the existing method of
filtering files by their extensions, users can now
specify their OWN filters for both folders and files. Use * for
wildcards, ? for a single character and # for single
number (e.g. *2005*backup*)
- Quick Folder Size Calculating - calculating folder sizes right in the
folder listing is now faster. Size calculations
can be terminated with the Escape key, and a single folder size can be
calculated with the F3 key.
Minor updates
- Folder comparison tool sometimes did not remember the last settings
used (e.g. compare by file size, file date etc).
This has been fixed.
- Some speed improvements implemented.
- Occurrence of nag message decreased for users of free version.
- When list sized too small to show items, message is displayed to avoid
confusion.
- bug when opening Microsoft Access database squished
- Additional tool tips added
- added ability to reset File Smile settings by pressing ' r ' key
during startup

- Bookmarks - you can now right click and bookmark a folder. Bookmarks
appear in the drive list and are great for jumping to important folders
- works on both local and network folders
- Command Line - added 'Command Line' to right click context menu. If a
folder is selected, the command window will default to this folder, if a
file is selected command window will default to parent folder (beta user
request)
- Column Resizing - double click on column headings while the resize
cursor is showing will resize the column to the longest text in that
column (hold ctrl to resize on-screen items only)
- Export File Listings - folder and file listings (and their properties)
can now be exported to a text file (comma separated - works well with
spreadsheets)
- Start Button - added 'File Smile' to right click 'context menu' of the

from main menu, toolbar icon or Options dialog - improves speed
considerably when file sizes are large

or the system tray (i.e. the clock area)
Minor Updates
